Behind the Design: Exploring Pod 4’s New Cover Design

The new Pod 4 boasts fresh features that meet you where you’re at in your sleep journey, starting with a fully redesigned technology inside the Cover.

What’s inside the Cover in Pod 4?

While from the outside you may see just fabric that wraps around your mattress, the Cover in Pod 4 is packed with proprietary sensing and temperature-regulating technologies that were specifically developed to achieve the highest levels of accuracy, performance, and comfort.

These layers of technology inside the Cover are what we define as the Thermal Core. It includes two main parts: a system of soft tubing for temperature regulation, and sleep and health tracking sensors. The temperature-regulating tubing is set in two separate paths, one for each side of the bed, for the water to flow at your desired temperature. The temperature of the water is determined by Autopilot (and by you), and it arrives as the target temperature directly from the accompanying Hub which sits next to your bed.

The most powerful thermal performance on the market

Temperature is a key component of the Pod’s ability to improve your sleep, and the new design improves the rate at which the Cover heats and cools by streamlining the interior flow of water. We swapped out the watermat system from previous Pod generations for a “highway” design which allows for a smoother, quicker flow of water, adjusting more efficiently to your needs. This new design allows for even faster temperature adjustments – all while balancing next-level comfort. To boost the Pod’s thermal power, the Pod 4 Cover also absorbs heat from your body faster and transfers it through the tubing to the water, increasing its thermal conducting capabilities.

A sensor-packed, more powerful layout

In addition to heating and cooling, Pod 4’s sensors track the following sleep and health metrics at a clinical-grade level:

  • Time you
slept
  • Time in deep sleep
  • Time in REM sleep
  • Time you fell asleep
  • Time you woke up
  • Time you got into & out of bed
  • Heart rate variability (HRV)
  • Resting heart rate
  • Sleep stages (Deep, REM, Light, Wake)
  • Snoring intensity
  • Snoring duration

Plus, Pod 4 also features two additional accelerometers as well as environmental sensors that can track your sleep needs, creating a unique formula for every user

20% thinner for supreme comfort

A north star for this redesign was to make the Pod more comfortable, starting with making the switch from a mat with a grid pattern to softer tubes that easily compress under the weight of your body while ensuring proper water flow. By developing this more flexible tubing material and improving the water density within the Cover’s tubes, users can enjoy a more comfortable heating and cooling experience.

The new design features a new blend of softer foams and agile adding more cushion to the Cover and adjusting to the body’s natural movement during sleep. The Cover in Pod 4 is 20 percent thinner than our original, eliminating unnecessary bulk from your bedding. And on top of it all, it’s significantly more averse to puncture force — and more elastic — meaning you don’t have to worry about wear on the Cover after a night of tossing and turning. But with Pod 4, you can trust that there will be less of that to begin with.

Enhanced durability for long-lasting benefits

We developed the latest Pod model to withstand the wear and tear of everyday life, and after more than 200 lab tests, Pod 4 is proven to cater to even the most restless and active sleepers — or even kids and pets jumping on the bed.

Our team conducted rigorous experiments to ensure durability – from specialty machines that simulate people rolling in and out of bed more than 100,000 times to comparing the stiffness of our Cover to other gold-standard products in the market. Throughout the development of the product, we’ve collected thousands of hours of data to validate the comfort, flexibility, and longevity of Pod 4.
