The state of sleep in 2025
Every night tells a story. Here’s what the world’s smartest sleepers revealed this year:
- Average Sleep Fitness Score: 78.8
- Average time slept: 7 hrs 15 min
- Average bedtime: 11:21 PM
- Average wake-up: 7:06 AM
Global highlights
Some countries carried the team more than others. Belgium had the highest average Sleep Fitness Score at 81.5. Meanwhile, Denmark led for the most consistent schedule (scoring 80 for routine) and Portugal got the most average time asleep at 7 hrs and 11 min a night.

Czech Republic led the world in recovery efficiency, posting the lowest resting heart rate at 54.1 bpm — calm physiology built into every cycle. Monaco recorded the highest heart-rate variability at 62 ms, a sign of adaptability and elite resilience.
Aussies woke earliest, with 60.3% of members being early risers and an average wake time of 6:49 AM. On the other end of the spectrum, Saudi Arabia ran the night with an average bedtime of 1:00AM.
25 countries made the 2025 Sleep Fitness Leaderboard with the highest average Sleep Fitness Scores around the world.

Together, apart, and everything in between
82.1% of Eight Sleep members share their Pod with a partner, utilizing dual zone temperature as the key to a successful relationship.
Slovakia (88.0%), Estonia (86.4%), and Poland (85.4%) had the highest share of couples, achieving optimal sleep together without compromise.
Saudi Arabia (36.8%), Czech Republic (30.3%), and Hungary (27.4%) led for solo sleepers, where independent sleepers viewed recovery as a personal pursuit.

Some couples were perfectly in sync, sleeping within just 1 Pod level of each other. Others embraced their contrast, sleeping on opposite ends of the temperature dial.
And yet, data showed that compatibility pays: partners sleeping within 5 levels of each other had a higher average Sleep Fitness Score by 8.4 points.
Personalized sleep wins, no matter how you share your space.
Did men or women sleep better?
This year, women took the crown for Sleep Fitness – achieving a higher average Sleep Fitness Score and sleeping longer each night. However, men led in recovery, with more deep sleep and lower HRV.
From a temperature standpoint, women slept best near -1, and men closer to -2. The Pod adapted to both, adjusting nightly to each individual’s optimal recovery range.

How age shapes sleep
Between the energy of youth and the steadiness of experience, one age group hit the sweet spot. Ages 35–49 achieved the highest global Sleep Fitness Score (79), suggesting that this decade may be where balance and recovery finally align.
Each generation ran their sleep schedules differently, with 65+ members waking up earliest, and those 18-24 getting to bed the latest.
- Early risers: Ages 65+ (55.7% of members)
- Intermediates: Ages 35–49 (34.4%)
- Night owls: Ages 18–34 (36.6%)
